"Freedom Songs"


The Huron Valley Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee will host a series of events open to everyone in the Huron Valley Community and the Metro Detroit Area.

Our 10th Annual Celebration events provide opportunities to serve the Beloved Community, while celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a continuing effort to realize his dream as ours.

Changes for 2015:

Artist Contest- 'Freedom Song' Art Contest Submission Creation Studios at SHAC:

The SHAC will open its doors to everyone to come together creatively in fellowship to create their HVMLK 2015 Artist Contest submissions. Gather to get ideas and inspiration for your contest submission, make new friends, and access all of SHAC's art supplies for $5, or bring your own supplies for no charge. HVMLK Day will provide printed lyrics from Freedom Songs, historical and artistic images associated with the Civil Rights Movement, along with music as a source of inspiration for your original Artist Contest submission.  SHAC is located at 125 South Main St, Suite 700, Milford, MI. All children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Studio Dates & Times:

- Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 11am- 4pm.

- Friday, January 2, from 11am-5pm.

MONDAY, January 19th:

We are doing something about hunger… right here in Huron Valley on MLK Day!

HVMLK Day Committee will host a "Empty Bowl" charity event in conjuction with Community Sharing.

The Empty Bowl Project is part of a worldwide grassroots effort to end hunger and food insecurity. The Huron Valley MLK Day committee will host an 'Empty Bowl Project' bowl painting party to paint your own glass bowl. All the money raised at HVMLK Day bowl painting event will be donated to Community Sharing Outreach Center in an effort to end hunger.
